VERY POLITE NEW YORK TIMES

Uh, seriously?  Not a single use of the phrase "autoerotic asphyxiation"?  Not even a hint that there are any sexual implications to this game?

Do all instances have sexual implications? Perhaps it's a generational thing.

When I was in junior high in the 70s, we did something similar on school property where one kid would hold his breath while another one squeezed his chest. The former kid would eventually pass out and awaken w/ a buzz. Nothing sexual to it.

Interesting. I would think not all but most. I've never heard of anyone doing this without a sexual component to it. I've also read somewhere that many suicides-by-hanging are actually unintentional, and called such to avoid embarrassment for the family.

At the very least, it seems totally bizarre to write a whole article about recreational asphyxiation without any discussion of the sexual aspect.

I've read articles like this, although I've always associated the choking game (or whatever you want to call it) with something sexual, really.
